Andrew Mignatti explores healthcare transparency at DxCon

On September 28th, careviso’s CEO and Co-Founder, Andrew Mignatti, took the stage at DxCon to address a pressing concern in the healthcare industry: transparency. His presentation titled “Transparency in Healthcare,” provided a measured and insightful perspective on the challenges and progress in this critical area.

In a healthcare system characterized by rising costs and opacity, Andrew discussed the various legislative efforts, both past and present, aimed at introducing transparency into the space. He offered an objective assessment of the evolving landscape, emphasizing the significance of both recently passed and future bills that will ultimately help patients have access to accurate pricing information.

A diverse group of individuals listening to a presentation by Andrew Mignatti on the DxCon presentation stage.

First, Andrew discussed Transparency in Coverage, passed into final rule in 2020, which highlights having “shoppable services” price information made accessible to consumers. Next, he emphasized the No-Surprises Act, effective January 2022, which has multiple parts in which collaboration between health plans and providers is essential for achieving transparency. Lastly, Mignatti then discussed the Advancing Interoperability and Improving Prior Authorization Processes Bill. This bill, which focuses on the requirements for Prior Authorization for Medicare Advantage, is expected to be signed into final rule sometime before the end of 2023.

Andrew Mignatti’s presentation served as a reminder of the importance of transparency, not only to facilitate informed decision-making for patients, but also as a means to promote collaboration between healthcare providers, including laboratories and health plans. He gave stakeholders a realistic view of how current bills in Congress are aiming to break down the long-standing barriers that have concealed the true costs of healthcare services.

DxCon attendees left with a more realistic perspective on the challenges and timelines surrounding transparency in healthcare and what the effect on laboratories will be.
