American Heart Month

Written by Madison Scroggin

Why do we celebrate American Heart Month?

The annual celebration began in 1964 to encourage Americans to join the battle against heart disease and to raise awareness of cardiovascular health. This includes blood vessel diseases, heart rhythm problems, congenital heart disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, etc. National ‘Wear Red Day’ is every year on the first Friday of February. Heart disease is the number one cause of death worldwide. In most cases, adopting a healthy lifestyle can increase your heart health, including not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, having a regular exercise routine that includes cardio and getting regular checkups.
